Wesabe

WesabeYears ago I used to use Yodlee to manage my finances but lost interest with using the service given the cluttered information and lack of much ease of use or ways to help me make sense of all the data. It is a very Web 1.0 portal-like service. Wesabe on the other hand has a clean interface, is very easy to use, and allows for tagging for cross-referencing.

Another big benefit is that the service doesn’t actually store your account details on their site. You either manually upload your account details when you want or you keep your account details encrypted on your own computer that keeps the website updated with your finances.

The social aspect is that Wesabe shows you tips specific to the merchants you actually use, like how to save money on insurance if you have an insurance transaction. There are also tips from other users that have similar goals. It’s really easy to slice your spending and chart the data. I only write one check a month and I have not balanced my checkbook in so many years I can’t even remember. Online is good.

Have you checked out Yodlee recently? The did a major upgrade last July 4th and it’s transformed into a very Web 2.0 product. I’ve played with Wesabe as well, and it’s getting there, but certainly doesn’t have anywhere the level of support and quality of the Yodlee data.

Hi, I’m Jason CEO of Wesabe. Adam thanks for taking the time to use our product, and I’m happy it is working for you. When I read your blog post all I could think was: “I never want Adam to lose interest.” So, if you do find your that you aren’t as thrilled about what we are doing at some point in the future, please write to me and let me know…jason@wesabe.com, and we’ll do what we can to keep you excited.

Jordan – could you speak a little more directly to how Wesabe could offer better support, and where Yodlee offers better data? We are always trying to improve and it sounds like you have great feedback to offer.

Jordan – I actually did check it out briefly once I saw Wesabe, just to refresh my memory since it had been a year since I had logged in. I noticed my account needed upgrading but I didn’t see what actually improved once I logged in, so I might of missed the changes (or it wasn’t clear).
