Wireless Philly Politics

Another interesting nytimes artcle, this time on the politics of the wireless plan for Philadelphia and the relationship with their most famous corporate citizen, Comcast.

Comcast officials have repeatedly disputed her contention that the private sector (read EarthLink) will foot the entire $10 million to $15 million bill to introduce the service and that the project will cost taxpayers nothing.

Comcast is wrong, [Dianah L. Neff, the city's chief information officer and architect of Wireless Philadelphia] maintains. “It’s not like the $30 million subsidy they got to build their corporate headquarters,” she said. “This crying about subsidies is a little disingenuous.”

Thanks to Om for the heads up.

Google takes on Madison Ave

An interesting and long article on Google’s history and where it is taking advertising, and how Google is reshaping marketing and advertising (nytimes).

In any case, there is little doubt that Mr. Schmidt believes that science will replace much of the art of marketing. “I have this fantasy that goes like this,” he said at one point. “You are the C.E.O. of a large company, and I come to you and say, ‘Give me $1 million and give me your Web site, and we will guarantee you will get $100 million in sales.’ Which C.E.O. would turn that down?”

LastFMPart of amazing potential of web 2.0 is how one persons preferences can be shared and combined and aggregated in very interesting ways. LastFM automatically keeps track of what music you listen to, in my case, with iTunes. You get to view what other people listen to and what might be similar to what you happening to be playing… all in a straightforward simple interface.

I’ve added a link to my LastFM in the nav, and it will be interesting to see how it looks after I listen to some more music.

NY Buffs
It seems my local alumni club for the University of Colorado has a new web site, with some nice info for watching the football games and other social activites in the area… and I do like the graphic.

Dilbert Blog
Need I say more:

The beauty of blogging, as compared to writing a book, is that no editor will be interfering with my random spelling and grammar, my complete disregard for the facts, and my wandering sentences that seem to go on and on and never end so that you feel like you need to take a breath and clear your head before you can even consider making it to the end of the sentence that probably didn’t need to be written anyhoo.

If that doesn’t inspire you to read my blog, I don’t know what will. You can find the Dilbert Blog at

For those of us waiting eagerly for the next bubble… there is Bubble 2.0. This is a humourous take on O-Reilly’s Web 2.0 Meme Map.

And you gotta love the tagline: “Please, God, just one more bubble!”

EMBA Rankings
My Exectutive MBA program got some very good news, when BusinessWeek ranked Rutgers Business School EMBA Best in Finance, Strategy.

This is great news for a program that gets overshadowed by the programs to the west and east.

The professors involved with the Fainance & Strategy classes, of which I have personally had classes with Mark and Suresh:

A lot of the credit is due to the director of the program, Farrokh Langdana.

Printing Flickr Photos

QOOPThere does not seem to be a good option for printing photos directly from Flickr, but there is a very slick service that allows you to print a perfect-bound book or poster from Flickr photos. The book starts with 6-28 pages for $9-$16, and 13.5″ x 19″ poster is $10.

There are however a few options for manually printing digital photos:

And for those that use Firefox and have Greasemonkey, can install this Flickr/Shutterfly Integrator.
